Illinois River Trail
Upriver a few miles from Winter Springs Ranch the Illinois River joins the Rogue River near the town of Agness. Just above the mouth of the Illinois there is a wonderful trail that leads into the Kalmiopsis Wilderness. This is a trail suitable for an hour, several hours, or several days. The early part of the trail is flat, well maintained, and easy on the legs. There are frequent filtered views of the river below, excellent distant vistas, and everywhere a canopy of giant fir trees. The pictures in this set were taken in early fall before the birds had cleaned out the berries, the giant maple leaves were just begining to fall, and the mushrooms were just starting to pop.
